what is fastpitch

Fastpitch is played between two teams, with one team batting and the other playing defence. The goal is to score more runs than the other team.

How is it different from baseball or Slo-Pitch?

The biggest difference is the pitching. In fastpitch softball, the pitcher throws underhand, using a fast, windmill-style motion. The pitch can be very fast, which is where the name fastpitch comes from!

Other differences include:

  • The softball is larger than a baseball.
  • The field and bases are generally closer together than in baseball and slo-pitch.
  • Games are typically shorter than baseball games.
  • Fastpitch has its own rules for pitching, stealing, and baserunning.
  • There are only three outfields compared to four in slo-pitch.

Fastpitch teaches throwing, catching, hitting, running, teamwork and decision-making—and at the youth level, the biggest goal is to learn, have fun and build confidence.
